Bob Henderson grew up in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, where he participated in football, basketball and baseball for South Pittsburg High School. He came to the University of Memphis in 1952 on football scholarship under former head coach Ralph Hatley. A favorite of his teammates, Henderson played as an offensive guard and linebacker. After graduation he worked as a freshman football coach while completing his master’s degree. He began a career as a teacher and coach at Bruceton-Hollow Rock High School, moved to South Pittsburg High and ended his teaching career at McMinn County High where he also served as athletic director. He left the teaching profession to become the Director of Public Housing and Urban Renewal and currently serves as the Executive Secretary of the Beech River Watershed Development Authority in Lexington, Tennessee.
