Coy Creason, who came to the Tigers in 1949 from Brewers, Kentucky, was a great high school athlete. He was named Mr. Kentucky Basketball as a junior and senior and brought those same talents to the Tiger program. Highly thought of by his teammates, Creason was named co-captain all four seasons at Memphis State College and was the team’s MVP for three years. He averaged 11.04 points per game as a freshman and had a career average of 8.5 points per game with his 820 career points scored. Creason was picked to the NAIB All-Tournament Team (Kansas City, Missouri) in 1952 and in 1960 was again honored when members of the media selected him to the All Time Tiger Basketball Team. Following graduation he went to work for Atochem, a division of Pennwalt Chemical Corporation and stayed with the company for 40 years. Creason was also involved in politics and served as a city councilman in Benton for six years and mayor for 23 years.
