Everett Taylor, the brother of former Tiger and NFL fullback Cliff Taylor, came to the Tigers in 1972 as a defensive back and went on to star for the football and track teams. He was a starter at safety from his sophomore season through his senior campaign. He totaled two pass interceptions and 34 tackles as a sophomore and in the spring of 1973 replaced his brother Cliff on the Tigers 440 relay team that won the NCAA National Championship in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As a senior, he was credited with three pass interceptions and 34 tackles for the football squad. His three interceptions led the team that fall. Taylor was drafted by the New York Jets in the ninth round of the 1974 draft and played for five seasons with the Jets before spending five additional seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He retired from professional football in 1985. Taylor returned to Memphis and is the head football coach at Southside High School.
