George Holt graduated from Central High School in Memphis where he was a standout baseball player for the Warriors. He was a catcher for the 1958 state championship team and won the city batting title as a senior in 1959. He signed a baseball scholarship with Southwestern Louisiana but after two years, transferred to the University of Memphis. He played for two years for the Tigers and following graduation, became the head baseball coach at White Station High School, a position he held for over 35 years. Holt sent numerous outstanding players to the Tigers including Hall of Fame pitcher Blair Gilbert, former catcher Chip Colbert and catcher Barrett Smith. In addition to his undergraduate degree, Holt also holds his master’s degree from the University of Memphis. He served as a volunteer coach for Memphis in the early 2000s.
