George Price arrived at Memphis State University in 1956 and played basketball through the 1960 season for the Tigers. In his first season the forward led the freshman team in scoring with a 16.9 point per game average and helped the team to a 11-4 record. During the next three years Price became a starter and led MSU to some of its greatest basketball moments to date. As a sophomore, Price’s Tigers compiled a 15-7 record, including capturing the Sugar Bowl Tournament championship with a win over Maryland. As a senior, Price was named captain of the squad and led the Tigers to an 18-5 record and an appearance in the NIT in new York. He scored 28 points in MSU’s win over Baylor in 1959-60 and 22 points against Ole Miss and 23 versus Florida State. Following graduation Price became a pilot for TWA and retired to Sarasota, Florida, after his airline career.
