Greg Montgomery

After a stellar prep career at Escambia County High in Atmore, Alabama, Greg Montgomery arrived in Memphis in the fall of 1979.
He immediately earned a spot on the Tiger depth chart and registered 18 tackles as a freshman and had his first fumble recovery in the Tigers' 22-0 win over North Texas.
The nose tackle was redshirted in 1980 after a heat-related illness but returned to a starting role in 1981 and was the team's third leading tackler with 72 tackles and four quarterback sacks, which led the Memphis defense. He had a season-high 15 tackles and a pass breakup in the Tennessee contest and also registered double digit tackles against Virginia Tech.
In 1982, Montgomery registered 82 total tackles, including a career-high 13 stops, and a quarterback sack in the Cincinnati contest and produced 10 tackles against the Louisville Cardinals. Montgomery tacked on 67 tackles as a senior starter, including 12 against Southern Miss, bringing his career total to 237 total tackles. He was named to the All-Metro Conference team for three consecutive years and was voted team captain in 1983.
Montgomery received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1984 and began a career with Ryder Integrated Logistics, where he served as a Senior Operations Manager.
