Greg Powers, who had a brilliant amateur career in Albany, New York, lettered for the Tiger golf team for four years, 1967-70. As a sophomore he joined with teammates to lead the Tiger golf team to a perfect 8-0 record and a first place finish in the Sunkist Tournament, the Buckhalter Tournament and the LSU Invitational Tournament. As a junior Powers carried a 72.1 stroke average and helped his team to an 8-2 record in match play. Following his senior season, Powers joined the PGA TOUR and began a 15-year career as a professional golfer. He finished in the top 100 money winners twice in his carer topping out number 52 in 1981. He finished 10th in the British Open at St. Andrews in 1981. Over his professional career, Powers earned more than $330,000. Unfortunately, Powers career ended suddenly after a car accident left him physically unable to continue to play competitively. Powers, who makes his home in Holmes Beach, Florida, works for PGA TOUR Radio.
