Grover Lipe

Grover Lipe came to the University of Memphis as a transfer from Mississippi State. The Boyle, Mississippi, native lettered for the Tigers for three years as an offensive lineman and as a linebacker for the defense. After college he enlisted in the Air Force and received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1953. He served his country for 23 years with stops at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., Sculthrop Air Force Base in the United Kingdom, Hickman Air Force Base in Hawaii and Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa. Lipe, who received the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal, retired with the rank of major.
