Holly Buford was a two-sport letter winner during her career at the University of Memphis. A native of Florence, Alabama, Buford came to the Tigers in the fall of 1980 on a volleyball scholarship and during her career was named to several all-tournament teams, as well as the All-Metro Conference team in 1982. In 1983, she was invited to try out for the United State National Team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also toured Latin America with Athletes in Action during that same year. Buford held six career volleyball records upon graduation and is still listed 14 times in the Lady Tiger record book. Buford also lettered during the 1981-82 school year as a member of the Lady Tiger basketball team. She received her degree in criminal justice in 1984 and is currently employed by the Tennessee State Government Department of Corrections.
