Joe Billings , a graduate of Munford High School in Tipton County (TN), played offensive and defensive tackle for the Tigers from 1952-55. He played under former head coach Ralph Hatley and helped the Tigers to wins over Louisville, Southern Mississippi and a tie against nationally recognized Tulane. The 1953 squad finished the season with a record of 6-4-0. In 1955, Billings was named first team all-American and was drafted by the Chicago bears. Following graduation he entered the United States Army and served for two years. After returning from service, Billings coached and taught at Munford High School and at Millington Central High for 37 years. He has been a Tipton County Commissioner, Vice-Mayor of Atoka (TN) and an alderman for 20 years.
