One of the most versatile football players in Tiger history, Keith Wright played for the University of Memphis from 1974 to 1977. He was a four year letterman and is best remembered for his receiving and kick returning. As a true freshman, Wright caught 11 passes for 166 yards and three scores, returned 13 punts for 218 yards and a touchdown and had eight kickoff returns for 172 yards. During his sophomore campaign, the speedy native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, caught 18 passes for 354 yards and four scores and returned 16 punts for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Injured early in his junior campaign, Wright still managed over 500 yards in receiving and returns. He came back with a healthy knee for his senior season and grabbed 38 passes for 628 yards and three touchdowns, had 21 punt returns for 201 yards and 17 kickoff returns for 345 yards. He finished his career with 1,248 receiving yards, 816 punt return yards and 738 kickoff return yards to go with his 14 touchdowns scored. He was named to the Associated Press All-America team in 1977 and earned MVP honors in the 1977 Hula Bowl Game. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns, Wright played three years in the NFL before entering the football coaching profession in Texas.
