Leo Davis
- Induction:
- 1986
Leo Davis often is hailed as the father of Tiger baseball but he is vividly remembered by University of Memphis military veterans. He coordinated veteran’s programs at the school following World War II. In 1948, he returned baseball to the campus after a 14-year absence. Davis coached the baseball team for four years, 1948 through 1951 and compiled a record of 34-16 (.680 winning percentage) in his 50 games as skipper. He came to then West Tennessee State Teachers College in 1939 as an assistant football coach. He later taught in the physical education department, served as a member of the athletic committee and retired in 1966 as associate professor emeritus.
