Richard Saccoccia

One of the finest defensive linemen in Memphis football history, Richard Saccoccia came to the Tigers in 1960 after a stellar prep career in Steubenville, Ohio. He signed with former head coach Billy J. Murphy and began his varsity career in 1960. He would earn letters for four years and his honors included being named captain of the 1963 undefeated team. The Tigers finished the season with a record of 9-0-1 and had five defensive shutouts. During his tenure at the University of Memphis, the Tigers posted an overall record of 33-5-1. Following his receiving his degree in Education, Saccoccia enter the coaching profession at his alma mater, Steubenville Catholic High School. He has also coached at Wheeling Central, Brook High, Wintersville high and Bethany College before returning to Steubenville Catholic, where he remains today.
