Roger Webb, a native of Mitcham, Surrey, England, came to the University of Memphis in 1977 as a member of the men’s tennis team. During his career, he helped lead Tommy Buford’s tennis teams to some of the greatest seasons. The former nationally ranked British player took over the number two position for Memphis as a freshman and was named the MVP of the Metro Conference Tournament. In 1978 he played the three position for the Tigers and received a invitation to the NCAA Championship as an individual. During his junior campaign, Webb produced a record of 23-2, which included a 6-0 record over SEC opponents. As a senior the accounting major played the number one position for the Tigers and he again led his team to the Metro Conference Championship. In fact, the Tigers won the Metro Conference Championship every year that Webb played. A CPA in Memphis, Webb continues to play in local doubles events with his former college teammate Steve Mansour.
