Ted Butler played golf for coaches Roy Moore and Bill Brogden for four years and lettered all four seasons. He was captain of the team in 1968 and 1969. Butler led the team in scoring in 1968 with a 72.8 stroke per round average. In 1969, he averaged 70.1 strokes pre round to again lead the squad and during the ‘69 season, he won the Buckholtz Invitational. Butler qualified for and played in the NCAA Tournament twice during his career and selected to play for the East Team in the annual East/West National Collegiate All-Star Tournament that same year. He was named the Outstanding Collegiate Athlete in America in 1969 and won the Tennessee State Amateur Championship that year as well. Following his collegiate career, Butler entered the golf coaching profession and became one of the most respected instructors in the country.
