Tigers Handle South Florida, 17-9

MEMPHIS Tenn. (AP) - Travis Anglin threw for 94 yards and a touchdown and Dante Brown rushed for 79 yards and another score as Memphis beat South Florida 17-9 Saturday night.
The Tigers (2-1) scored all of their points in the first quarter and had to hang on as the Bulls (1-2) drove the length of the field in the final 1:06. Marquel Blackwell's final pass into the end zone was long and incomplete as time ran out.
Memphis' attack was hindered in the second half by injuries to Anglin (shoulder) and Brown (ankle). The Tigers managed only 51 yards of offense after the break.
Memphis scored three times in the opening period and led 17-6 at the half as Anglin contributed in all facets of the game.
By the break, he was 7-of-9 for 80 yards and also led the team in receiving with a 45-yard catch and was the second leading rusher with 50 yards.
His 3-yard scoring pass to Sugar Sanders came on Memphis' opening drive and with only a minute gone in the game.
Ryan White added a 45-yard field goal on the Tigers' next possession for a 10-0 lead. The Tigers would add another score when Brown went over from a yard capping a five-play, 83-yard drive with a minute to play in the opening quarter.
