MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - DeAngelo Williams ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns as Memphis snapped a six-game losing streak with a 38-10 victory over Army on Saturday.
Williams had scoring runs of 59 and 12 yards in the second half to help Memphis (3-8, 2-5 Conference USA) broke a 10-10 tie at halftime. Dante Brown, the Tigers' other running back, also scored twice and gained 76 yards.
One week after they beat Tulane for their first victory of the season, the Black Knights (1-10, 1-7) managed only 67 total yards in the second half, including 14 in the fourth quarter.
Williams' 59-yard run with three minutes gone in the third quarter gave the Tigers the lead for good at 17-10. His 12-yard run came in the fourth quarter.
Memphis had 218 yards rushing and 216 passing, all from Danny Wimprine. He completed 22 of 36 passes, including a 10-yard TD pass to Tavares Gideon in the third quarter.
Army took advantage of two Memphis turnovers in the first half.
The Tigers opened the scoring with an 11-play, 56-yard drive on their first possession. Brown covered the final 2 yards to give Memphis a 7-0 lead.
But Brown's fumble at the Tigers 27 set up a 31-yard field goal by Joe Riley in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Black Knights recovered Antoine Harden's fumble, and Lucius Weaver returned it to the Memphis 27. On the next play, Army quarterback Reggie Nevels connected with Lamar Mason for a 27-yard score and a 10-7 lead with 4:38 left in the half.
Memphis answered with a drive to the Black Knights 15. But after incomplete passes and penalties, the Tigers settled for a 48-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski to tie the game at the half.
