Tigers Take Look At Younger Players

The Tiger football team not only continued with two-a-day practice sessions on Monday, the coaches continued to look at a variety of players in different positions. For the second consecutive day, Tommy West and his staff juggled a number of young players to different positions in an attempt to give good athletes a better chance to get playing time.
"The depth chart is in pretty good shape in most areas, " West stated. "What we are trying to do now is build depth at every position and give more players a chance to get on the field."
Prep quarterback Maurice Avery joined lettermen receivers Darron White and Andrew Harden and walk-on tailback LaKendus Boyce at the tailback position. The Tigers are looking for a third back to work behind Dante Brown and DeAngelo Williams.
"We are getting a good look at a lot of our young players," West said. "DeAngelo Williams is working at the number two tailback and John Doucette is getting some reps at tight end. There are a number of players on the defensive side of the ball that are competing like O.C. Collins, Tim Goodwell and LaVale Washington."
Two members of the 2001 football team will not be participating this fall due to medical concerns. Offensive lineman Jon Crews, a redshirt junior from Snellville, GA, and Darche' Epting, a redshirt fullback from Dallas, TX, have been declared medically unable to compete and will receive medical hardships. This will allow Epting and Crews to remain on scholarship to complete their education without counting against the 85 football scholarships.
Epting is still recovering from knee and leg surgery, while Crews has an ongoing ankle problem.
