Bradley vs. Memphis Game Three
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Bradley used a two-run triple with two outs in the ninth inning to rally past Memphis 5-4 on Sunday in the rubber match of the three-game series between the teams at FedExPark. Memphis drops to 5-6 on the season while Bradley improves to 5-4 on the year.
Bradley tallied the first run of the day with a RBI single by Austin Jarvis in the first inning. Rob Elliott led off the game with an infield single and advanced to scoring position on a groundout. Jarvis hit next and hit a single to left to plate Elliott for the first run of the game.
The Tigers gained the lead with a two-run single by Adam McClain in the third. An errant throw and walk put two Memphis base runners on and McClain delivered the single up the middle to collect his sixth and seventh RBI on the season.
A solo home run from Bradley designated hitter Greg Partkya knotted the score at 2-2, but Memphis starting pitcher Patrick Bailey got a groundout and five-straight strikeouts to complete his start with five innings pitched. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven.
Bradley regained the lead in the sixth on Jarvis' second RBI-single of the game, but the Tigers roared back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Eli Hynes blasted a leadoff home run to right and Derrick Thomas followed with a solo shot to left field to give Memphis a 4-3 lead.
The Braves threatened to tie the score in the eighth as three-straight hitters reached on bunt singles. Tigers' relief pitcher Chase Joiner pitched with no outs and bases loaded and forced a groundball to third for the double play that nabbed the lead runner at home. Joiner got out of the jam with another ground out, this time to first to end the Braves scoring threat and keep the Tigers lead at 4-3.
Joiner worked the ninth for the Tigers and the Braves immediately put the pressure on the senior hurler. A leadoff single and walk put two runners on and the Tigers' recorded the first out on a fielder's choice bunt. Joiner followed with a strikeout, but with two outs in the frame, Rob Elliott belted a triple to center to score two runs to give Bradley the 5-4 lead.
The Tigers used a leadoff walk and hit by pitch to put two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. Jacob Wilson was successful on the sacrifice bunt and Bradley intentionally walked Eli Hynes to load the bases with one out in the inning. Braves pitcher Danny Gifford struck out Thomas for the second out and a pop out in foul ground ended the Memphis scoring threat.
McClain and T.J. Rich paced the Tiger offense with two hits on the day. Bradley out-hit the Tigers 12-7 on the game with four different players having multiple hits on the game.
Memphis hits the road for a five-game road trip that begins on Tuesday at UL Monroe. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. in Monroe, La.
