Tigers and Hurricane play to double overtime scoreless draw
Memphis went on the road for the opening game of American Athletic Conference play and came away with a hard-fought draw in double overtime with Tulsa. The Tigers will return to Mike Rose Soccer Complex for the team's final nonconference game against Gonzaga, Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Â
"I thought we started a little slow, it was really a game of two halves," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "In the second half we lifted the standard for ourselves, we changed systems and I thought the kids adapted. We weren't quite as dangerous in the final third as we'd like to be."
Â
The Tigers held a 14-12 lead in shots, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal, while TU had an 8-4 lead in corner kicks.
Â
Maryse Bard-Martel made some key saves in the match to keep Tulsa off the board.
Â
"I think we're happy to get a point. I'm not disappointed but I'm not ecstatic. Tulsa is a good team that has a veteran squad so I think it's a decent result to start conference play. Every game is going to be tough," said Monaghan.
Â
The Tigers will return home Saturday for an "Alumni Weekend" doubleheader with the men's team hosting UCF after the women's game.
