Softball Concludes Weekend Tournament With Setback To Western Illinois

Lindsay Crowdus extended hitting streak to 10-straight games as Memphis finishes weekend with 2-3 record
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped the final game of the UofM Softball Tournament to Western Illinois Sunday afternoon by a score of 2-1 in eight innings. The Tigers ended the weekend with a 2-3 record, falling to 11-10 overall.

Western Illinois started the scoring off early, driving in a run on a triple to right center in the top of the first inning. Memphis answered with a triple of its own in the bottom half of the first by Addison Maxwell and a run driven in by a Lindsay Crowdus' single.

The game remained tied at 1-1 through four innings until the Leathernecks took the lead over in the top of the fifth. Western Illinois capitalized on a Tiger error with two outs to score the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Regan Hadley led the inning off with a double up the middle that resulted in Jessie Lamb, her pinch runner, to score on a pinch hit double by Brooke Lee to left center. Western Illinois had an answer, however, by putting two runs up in the top of the eighth inning. Memphis was unable to counter and left a runner on second to end the game.

Who Stood Out
Lindsay Crowdus / CF / Senior / Houma, La.
Crowdus extended her hitting streak to a team-leading 10 games after recording a hit in the first inning. She drove in the only Tiger run in the bottom of the first inning on her single up the middle. She also made two stellar defensive plays in the second inning to keep Western Illinois from scoring.

Brooke Lee / 2B / Junior / Meraux, La.
Lee came in to pinch hit for the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning and doubled to deep left center field, scoring Jessie Lamb from second. Lamb came into pinch run for Regan Hadley who led the inning off with a double up the middle.

Top 1 – After a two-out walk, Western Illinois tripled to right center, scoring the first run of the game. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 1 – With one out, Addison Maxwell tripled to left field, setting up Lindsay Crowdus with a runner in scoring position. Crowdus proceeded to extend her hitting streak to 10 games with a single up the middle, scoring Maxwell. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Top 5 – With two outs, the Western Illinois pitcher reached on a fielding error by Trosclair. Back-to-back singles by the Leathernecks brought Ira around to score. (1 run, 2 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
Top 8 – The Leathernecks scored the first run of the inning after a double to left center, scoring the runner placed on second due to the international tiebreaker. A long single off the wall in right field scored the second run of the inning. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)

Memphis will play its first midweek home game this season on Tuesday against nationally ranked No. 5 Texas A&M.
