Tigers Sweep On Day One Of Blues City Classic

Solid offense and pitching led Tigers to sweep Friday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Clutch hitting and solid pitching led the University of Memphis softball team to a pair of 5-3 victories Friday evening over Belmont and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Blues City Classic. The Tigers improve to 6-7 on the year after the Friday sweep.

The Tigers got the scoring early in game one, taking a 3-0 lead over the Bruins of Belmont. Memphis proceeded to maintain the lead for the entirety of the contest with solid hitting from Kyler Trosclair and Lindsay Crowdus. Memphis was able to maintain its lead over the Bruins by playing error-free ball.

Bayleigh Wisher was credited with the win with 4.2 innings pitched while Molly Smith earned her first save of the year against Belmont.Â

The Golden Lions struck first in game two, but Memphis quickly answered to take over the lead. A school-record four stolen bases by Crowdus, along with multi-hit games from Trosclair and Erin Parker, helped Memphis hang on to its lead. Katie Brignac pitched five innings for Memphis and allowed just two earned runs. Smith came into the game in the sixth and picked up her second save of the day.

Lindsay Crowdus / CF / Senior / Houma, La.
Crowdus finished the day going 4-for-8 with four runs driven in and four stolen bases. Her four stolen bases against Arkansas-Pine Bluff was a new school record for stolen bases in a game.

Kyler Trosclair / SS / Junior / Houma, La.
Trosclair went a combined 5-for-8 from the plate with a triple, and three stolen bases. It was her first triple of the 2017 season and the three hits against Belmont marked the first time this season she has achieved that feat. Trosclair now has five multi hit games this season.

Katie Brignac / P / Junior / River Ridge, La.
Brignac earned the start and the win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. She pitched five innings for the Tigers and struck out five. It was her first victory of the season.

Molly Smith / P / Junior / Yamhill, Ore
Smith racked up two saves on Friday night in 3.1 innings of work. She struck out a total of four batters on Friday, improving her season total to 19.

- Bottom 1 – Kyler Trosclair singled up the middle to lead-off the game and came around to score the first run on a wild pitch. Back-to-back singles by Erin Parker and Regan Hadley drove in two more runs to give Memphis a 3-0 lead. (3 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 2 – A solo home run in the top of the second got the scoring going for Belmont. The Bruins then added another run after back-to-back hits and a wild pitch. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 2 – With two outs, Trosclair singled to the pitcher and Addison Maxwell singled through the right side. Lindsay Crowdus made it three-straight Tiger hits with a triple to right center, scoring Trosclair and Maxwell. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Top 6 – A walk and a double to left center set up the Bruins with a runner on third with one out. A sacrifice fly brought in the runner on third. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Game 2 | Memphis 5, Arkansas Pine Bluff 3
- Top 1 – A fielder's choice play with bases loaded brought in the first UAPB run of the game. The runners got on base by way of an error on the catcher, and a pair of walks. (1 run, 0 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 1 – Memphis answered immediately as Trosclair and Crowdus combined for a pair of hits to score the first run of the game. A single by Erin Parker drove in the second run of the inning. (2 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 3 – Parker and Regan Hadley combined for a single and a double that scored the third Tiger run of the game. An error by the UAPB second baseman allowed Hadley to score. (2 runs, 2 hits, 2 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 5 – With runners on first and second, a single to right center scored a run. Two runners ended up scoring on the play. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
