May 03, 2019 | Softball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team opened up the final regular season series with a 5-1 setback to UCF Friday afternoon. The Tigers newest member, St. Jude patient Mabry Landstreet, threw out the honorary first pitch to open up the series against the Knights.
Memphis drops to 22-30 overall and 3-15 in American Athletic Conference play.
After a pair of scoreless innings, UCF took a 2-0 lead over the Tigers with a two-run home run to left center field in the top of the third inning. Memphis' Jessie Lamb reached by way of a walk in the bottom half of the inning, but she was stranded at first base.
Memphis had an opportunity in the bottom of the fourth when Ashley Threatt recorded a single through the right side. Threatt's pinch runner, Hannah Bassham, was stranded at first.
UCF responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to build its lead over Memphis.
