Memphis Softball drops both games of doubleheader at South Florida

TAMPA, FLA. –Memphis softball drops both games of doubleheader at South Florida in conference opening series 6-3 and 8-0.
GAME 1
Sophomore Chyanne Ellett started her seventh game of the season in the circle for the Tigers. She exited the game early after a third of an inning. Kailey Hilderbrand replaced her in the circle. She went three and two thirds innings giving up five runs on five hits, with two earned runs. Olivia Johnson finished out the game for the Tigers. She completed two innings, only giving up one hit.
Freshman Vivian Ponn started for the Bulls. This was her fourth start of the season. She went two innings, giving up two hits. Camryn Dolby replaced her in the circle in the third inning. Dolby threw four innings giving up one run and two hits. Brittany Hook got the first two outs of the seventh inning and Georgina Corrick got the last out of the game for the Bulls.
The Bulls got on the board in the first inning. Alexis Johns scored from third on a wild pitch. They added another run in the third inning, as AnaMarie Bruni scored on a throwing error by Brady Rowland to make it 2-0.
The Tigers got their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. With two on and one out, pinch runner Hannah Bassham scored from third on an Alyssa Dean RBI groundout to short, cutting the lead to 1-2. The Bulls got the run back in the bottom of the inning as Megan Pierro singled up the middle for a RBI. USF would add another three runs in the inning making it 6-1.
The Tigers would get two more run in the seventh on RBI singles up the middle by Baylee Smith and Kendall Lee, bringing the score to 6-3.
GAME 2
Johnson started the second game of the doubleheader for the Tigers but only lasted a third of an inning before being replaced by Mariah Nichols. Nichols went four and two thirds innings, giving up three runs on one hit but only one earned run. Ellett finished the game for the Tigers walking two straight batters.
Ponn got the start in game two as well. She went three and two thirds innings in the circle for the Bulls, giving up zero runs on two hits and two walks. Brittany Hook replaced Ponn in the fourth inning and only faced one batter before being replaced by Camryn Dolby. Dobly went two innings, giving up three hits. She was replaced in the circle by freshman Lexie Kopko.
The Bulls jumped on the board early again in game two. They scored two runs on a throwing error to first by Johnson. A batter later, Bethaney Keen poked a single into left field to score Bruni and make it a 3-0 ball game.
USF added another run in the bottom of the third, as Bruni scored on a throwing error to first by Nichols. On the next at bat, Pierro scored on another throwing error by Nichols to third extending the Bulls lead to 5-0. The Bulls put another three on the board in the sixth inning for the final score of 8-0.
The Tigers fall to 6-19(0-3) and the Bulls improve to 13-6(3-0)
