MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis softball team dropped their first game to Wichita State 20-0 on Thursday night. The Tigers (6-30) struggled to find opportunities at the plate and in the circle.

"Wichita State played a good game, they took the opportunities they were given," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "I felt we put up a goof first two-and-a-half innings and then shot ourselves in the foot after our first error. We need to just continue to work through the process and grow from our mistakes."

HOW IT HAPPENED

•       Memphis recorded the first hit of the game as Linsey Hargis singled up the middle in the bottom of the first inning.
•       Wichita State got on the board first as Mills hit a two-run single down the left field line in the top of the third inning. The Shockers added another run on an error allowing Mills to run in.
•       Wichita State singled up the middle followed by a walk to add two more runs to the board in the top of the third inning. Barnard hit a two-run single to left field to put the Shockers up by seven. Wichita State added one more run before ending the top of the third inning.
•       Hood opened the top of the fourth inning hitting a homerun over left field for the Shockers. McKinney hit a one-run single bringing in Brown. Barnard hit the Shocker's second homerun of the night bringing in three runs.
•       Wichita State added a run as Hoekstra run in on a throwing error in the top of the fifth inning. McKinney hit a two-run triple pushing the lead once again for the Shockers. Wichita State added four more run before closing out the top of the fifth inning.

NOTABLES

•       Mikayla Hoschak got the start going 5.0 innings recording two strikeouts.
•       Three Tigers recorded hits against Wichita State: Madison Berner, Neely Taylor Hargis.
