Tigers Drop Game Two to No. 7 Pirates
Apr 27, 2024 | Baseball
The Tigers dropped a to 18-25 overall (6-11 AAC) with the loss as the Pirates improved to 34-8 overall (13-4 AAC) and won their seventh-straight game.
"Things started out right and I thought we did a good job of coming out and responding after yesterday," head coach Matt Riser said. "We got the big two-out knock by Shane Cox to tie it up after three. Then after that, we couldn't get off the field with two outs."
"I have zero doubt that we can have success and win a ballgame tomorrow against East Carolina, but our mentality has to be in the right state and our leadership has to be in the right state. We have to show toughness and take pride in what we're doing to get ourselves back on track."
HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the top of the fourth, the Tigers rolled a one-six-three double play for the first two outs of the inning before the explosive Pirate offense erupted for eight two-out runs (six unearned) on eight hits, an error and a pair of walks to jump in front, 10-2.
• Jacob Compton homered to deep center field in the bottom of the sixth inning – his league-leading 12th of the season – to make the score 10-3.
• Back-to-back solo home runs by the Pirates in the top of the eighth inning made the score 12-3.
• East Carolina pushed across another pair of runs in the top of the ninth and made the score 14-3, giving the Pirates the victory and the series win.
