Memphis Softball Drops Midweek Contest to North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – Memphis fell by a score of 5-1 in a midweek game at North Alabama on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Alabama gained a lead early with a two-RBI double by Bayleigh Rouse in the first inning.
- Memphis would get runners on first and second in the second inning, but failed to produce a run.
- The Lions scored two more runs in the second from a single by Hailey Jones.
- Both runs were unearned due to a throwing error.
- Jones later came around to score for North Alabama's fifth run of the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Laura Leigh Wheeler.
- Both sides went scoreless from the third inning to the sixth inning, recording a combined three hits over the four innings of play.
- Shelby Durbin attempted to mount a comeback, hitting a solo home run to lead off the final inning.
- The next three batters were set down in order to end the game.
- Katie Simon pitched a complete game in the circle, her first seven-inning complete game of the year.
- She only allowed three hits and one run, finishing with a 0.57 WHIP.
NOTABLES
- Shelby Durbin was the only Tiger with a multi-hit performance.
- Her home run was the first of her Memphis career.
- Sophomore Ariel Davis recorded her first career stolen base.
- Neely Taylor made her 16th start of the season. She currently stands as the only Tiger to have started in every game this season.
- Memphis has yet to be shut out on offense through the first 16 games of the season. It is the longest streak of games with a run scored since 2018, when the Tigers scored at least one run in 34 consecutive games to start that season.
- This loss matches the lowest run total (1) in a game for the Tigers this season, tying Memphis' mercy rule loss to No. 24 Kentucky.
