Tigers Homer Twice in Loss to Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Memphis (4-9) softball team fell late in a tight contest against Southern (8-7) Thursday afternoon.
Memphis came back from a four-run deficit to tie the game before Southern strung hits together and took advantage of Memphis errors to put up six runs across the fifth and sixth innings.

Memphis continues its road stand in Baton Rouge in the LSU Invitational against LSU, Nicholls and Iowa over the weekend.
Only Memphis' two games against LSU will be broadcast on SEC Network+.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides went scoreless through the first two innings, although Southern threatened with runners on second and third before Jericho Tate struck out the final two batters of the inning.
- The Jaguars sprung out with a four-run third off an RBI double, RBI single and a two-run home run.
- Memphis used the long ball to get itself back into the game, as both Ariel Davis and Faith Brown hit two-run home runs to tie the game at four runs apiece.
- The Tigers appeared to have momentum after Aubrey Williams reached on an error, but she was thrown out at third on a close play attempting to advance and Memphis failed to score in the frame.
- Southern answered due to Memphis errors as an errant throw on a strikeout off the baserunner's head allowed Southern's fifth run to come across.
- The Jaguars put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth, all coming after a two-out error by the Memphis defense.
- Three straight RBI singles by Ava Wallace, Prestaisha White and Laila Clark gave Southern a 9-4 lead before Clark later stole third and scored on another throwing error.
