Memphis Offense Stifled in Series Finale Loss to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Memphis (16-26, 8-10 American) baseball team dropped the series finale to UAB, 11-2, on Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.
UAB used a pair of big innings to pull away, scoring five runs in both the fifth and seventh frames. Memphis was limited offensively throughout the contest, managing just six hits while striking out 13 times against the Blazers' pitching staff.
Javon Hernandez and Tyler Harrington each scored a run for the Tigers, while Freddy Rodriguez and Brady McAbee drove in Memphis' two runs. McAbee highlighted the offensive effort with an RBI double, and Rodriguez added an RBI single.
On the mound, Memphis starter Seth Garner (0-5) took the loss after allowing six runs over 4.2 innings. Charlie Smith and Nolan McCracken combined for the final 3.1 innings in relief, with McCracken tossing 1.1 scoreless frames and striking out three.
Memphis will return home before heading to Murray State for its eighth straight road game. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday.

- UAB struck first in the third inning with an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Blazers broke the game open in the fifth, plating five runs on a three-run home run and a pair of RBI hits to extend the lead to 6-0.
- Memphis got on the board in the sixth inning when Brady McAbee delivered an RBI double to score Javon Hernandez, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
- The Tigers added another run in the seventh on an RBI single from Freddy Rodriguez to make it 6-2.
