Garner Earns American Conference Pitcher of the Week, McAbee Receives Honorable Mention
May 11, 2026 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis pitcher Seth Garner and catcher Brady McAbee were named to the American Conference's weekly awards list on Monday with Garner being named American Conference Pitcher of the Week and McAbee receiving an honorable mention for American Conference Player of the Week.
Memphis has now had seven different players earn weekly conference recognition this season, while Garner becomes the second Tiger to receive either Pitcher or Player of the Week honors, joining James Smith IV, who earned Player of the Week recognition on March 17.
Garner, a senior from Savannah, Tenn., played a major role in the Tigers' series-clinching win over UTSA on Sunday. Starting the game and pitching five innings, Garner allowed just one unearned run and only three hits while striking out five, keeping Memphis in the game until the offense exploded for an eight-run sixth inning.
Sunday marked Garner's third outing this season pitching at least five innings, and the lone unearned run he allowed was the fewest he has surrendered in any of those appearances. His five strikeouts also matched his second-highest total in a game this season.
McAbee, a junior from Tuscaloosa, Ala., came through in big spots for Memphis all week, contributing to the Tigers midweek win over Central Arkansas and their series win over conference-leading UTSA. McAbee posted a .429 batting average on the week with two home runs and seven total RBI, while adding three runs scored and two walks. McAbee clobbered his fifth homer of the season in the win over Central Arkansas and tied game one of the UTSA series with a 380-foot bomb to bring his total to six.
Across the week, McAbee led the Tigers in home runs (2), RBIs (7), walks (2) and OPS (1.328). He now sits third on the team in home runs (6), while he improved his batting average to .313, his slugging percentage to .531 and his on-base percentage to .412.
