Casey Named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week; Mackay Earns Honorable Mention

IRVING, Texas – University of Memphis women's soccer players Ally Casey and Evelyn Mackay earned American Conference weekly honors on Monday, with Casey being named Defensive Player of the Week and Mackay receiving an honorable mention.
Casey played a key role on both ends of the field in Memphis' 1-0 victory over Kansas City on Sunday, helping the Tigers hold the Roos without a shot on goal while limiting them to just three total shots.
The defender also provided the service that led to Memphis' game-winning goal in the 77th minute. Casey delivered a cross into the box that found Mackay, who settled the ball and tucked a shot in the bottom-right corner. The assist was Casey's second of the season and third of her career.
Casey played the full 90 minutes in the victory as Memphis controlled 67 percent of possession and held a 32-3 advantage in shots and 14-3 edge in corner kicks.
Mackay earned an honorable mention after netting the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. The junior defender finished off the sequence started by Casey and Abby Forsgren to break the scoreless tie and secure the Tigers' second shutout victory of the season. The goal was Mackay's second of the season and third of her collegiate career.
Both Casey and Mackay have been key contributors for the Tigers this season, with Mackay logging the most minutes of any Memphis outfield player at 619 of a possible 630 and Casey sitting just one minute behind at 618.
