Tipton Named John Mackey Award Player of the Week

BALTIMORE – University of Memphis tight end Hunter Tipton was named the John Mackey Award Player of the Week for the top performance by a tight end, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
Tipton's career night at Boise State, finishing with nine catches for 229 yards and a touchdown, was not just one of the best by a Memphis tight end, but one of the best of any tight end in the history of college football.
His 229 receiving yards were just five shy of tying the FBS record, set by Dalton Kincaid (234) of Utah in 2022. His total sits third all-time in single-game receiving yards by a tight end, and he is just the fourth tight end in college football history with 200-plus receiving yards on less than 10 catches.
According to Pro Football Network, Tipton was the highest-graded tight end in all of college football last week with a 98.9, also being named to the Pro Football Focus (PFF) Team of the Week. Tipton also currently stands as the second-highest rated tight end at the FBS level at this point in the season with a 97.3 grade.
