Andrew Wright

Andrew Wright joined the Memphis Athletic Department in July 2023 as the Director of Athletic Turf and Grounds. His current role is oversight of daily operations, maintenance and planning of all athletic grounds and appropriate turf fields located on the University of Memphis Park Avenue Campus.Â
His duties also include maintaining university equipment through routine maintenance and coordination with contractors for repairs, as well as managing the equipment replacement plan. Wright also oversees the turf and grounds staff and maintains the grounds budget to maintain game fields for practice and competition.
Wright is currently a member of the Sports Field Managers Association and the Student Challenge Committee.Â
Prior to coming to Memphis, Wright served as the Head Sports Turf Manager at the University of North Texas, handling similar duties to his current tasks at Memphis. While at North Texas, Wright was honored as the 2022 Pioneer Athletics Fields of Excellence Award Winner for North Texas's Lovelace Stadium and Track and Soccer Stadium.Â
Wright also has experience as a Head Groundskeeper for the Memphis Redbirds and 901 FC, along with two years as the Head Groundskeeper and Interim Stadium Operations Manager for the Long Island Ducks, a team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.Â
Wright has also worked in multiple leagues in operations, facilities and grounds, working with the American Arena League from 2016-2021, the Augusta Greenjackets from 2005-2006, the Rome Braves from 2003-2004, the Huntsville Stars from 2001-2003 and the Wilmington Waves in 2001.Â
He graduated from North Carolina State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy with a Turf Concentration.
Wright has three sons, Brad, Zane and Nash, and one daughter, Carlie Tolar.Â
