Alex Moore lettered as a lineman for the Tigers from 1950-52 playing under former head coach Ralph Hatley. The Somerville, Tennessee, native worked on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Tigers and as a sophomore, helped his team to a 9-2-0 record. He opened the season at right guard and worked with All-American Calvin Allen learning his trade. He appeared in six games in 1950 and blocked for such noted runners as Alex Williams, Frank Berry and Keith White. In 1952, Moore was moved to center and opened the season against Ole Miss. He was moved to center for the Southwestern Louisiana contest but returned to the guard slots for the later part of the campaign. As a senior Moore was one of the team’s leading tacklers and was singled out for his defensive play against Ole Miss. He registered a fumble recovery in the North Texas State game which stopped an Eagle drive. The highlight of the season was a 29-25 homecoming win over Louisville which was quarterbacked by Johnny Unitas. Moore remained in the Mid-South area after graduation and became one of the largest farming operations in the region.
