Bill Scott, a native of Cicero, Illinois, came to the University of Memphis as a transfer from Michigan State University. After a great prep career at Vocational High School, the big fullback signed with the Spartans but transferred to Memphis during his first year in East Lansing, Michigan. Playing for former head coach Billy J. Murphy, Scott was moved to offensive line and became one of the greatest offensive guards in school history. He and his teammates won 33 games over a four year period and were undefeated in 1963. Following graduation Scott was drafted by the New York Jets and later played for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. Upon retirement from professional football, he entered the coaching profession at Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis and later moved to Lymon High School in Longwood, Florida. He coached at Lymon High until forced to take retirement due to illness. Scott passed away in 1999.
