Billy Patrick, a native Memphian, played baseball for head coaches Dean Ehlers and Al Brown from 1961-65. A graduate of Central High School, Patrick pitched for the Tigers and compiled an overall record of 21-1 over his four years seasons. During his freshman season, 1962, Patrick posted four wins against no loses. He made six appearances during the 1963 season and again went undefeated with a 6-0 record and a 2.75 ERA. As a junior, Patrick was 5-1 and had a 2.63 ERA. He registered 31 strikeouts and gave up just 13 earned runs on the season. In his final season with the Tigers, Patrick, who was captain and the team MVP, again went undefeated with a 6-0 mark and a 2.08 ERA. He posted more than 100 career strikeouts against just 29 walks. His 95.0% win-loss percentage ranks as the best in the Memphis history. Patrick was drafted by the San Francisco Giants and played three years with the organization before returning to Memphis to get his master’s degree in Marketing/Economics. He was selected as an All-Star in 1966 and led the league in earned run average. Patrick worked as an affiliated broker with E.H. Crump & Company. Â
