Dr. Ken Caldwell was born in Ferndale, Michigan and moved with his family to Clinton, Kentucky, following his father’s death. After an outstanding prep career at Clinton High School (KY) and Union City High (TN), Caldwell signed a basketball scholarship with then Memphis State College and became the team’s second leading scorer behind All-American Forest Arnold. In 1955 he played on Memphis State’s first NCAA Tournament team and scored 18 points to lead the Tigers in scoring against Penn State in the Mideast Regional in Lexington, Kentucky. During the 1955-56 season, Caldwell scored a career high 31 points against Texas A&M and tallied 974 points over his career (10.36 average). An all-round student-athlete, Caldwell was named to Who’s Who Among American Colleges, was named to Delta Kappa honorary fraternity and was commissioned in the United States Air Force. He enrolled in dental school after the service and practiced locally for 33 years. Caldwell was a founding member of the Rebounders Club.
