Fred Horton

Fred Horton was one of the most intimidating inside players in the history of Tiger basketball. The Durham, North Carolina, native came to Memphis in 1969 and teamed with the likes of Don Holcomb, Larry Finch and Ronnie Robinson to return the Tigers to basketball super-stardom.
A power forward, Horton was a force inside. As a sophomore, Horton scored a season-high 26 points against Louisville. Â As a junior, he had a season best 27 points against Indiana State.
During his senior year Horton averaged 12.4 points per game and had a season-high 25 points against Arkansas. He averaged 10.7 points per game during his career and grabbed 436 rebounds despite playing two seasons with injuries.
He received his degree in secondary education from Memphis and was hired as the head basketball coach at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis and turned out numerous collegiate players during his career.
Horton also served as the assistant principal at Booker T. Washington.
