Keith Butler came to then Memphis State University in the fall of 1974 and along with his brother, Zacky Butler, became a star for the Tigers. The Huntsville, Alabama, native started for four years at linebacker for Memphis and recorded 384 career tackles. When he completed his career, Butler had registered 226 solo tackles and 158 assisted hits, which were both new Memphis records in 1977. Additionally, he was credited with one fumble recovery and seven pass interceptions during his four seasons as a Tiger. His marks for tackles still remain listed in the Memphis football record book. Following graduation, he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 1978 draft and started at inside linebacker for the Seahawks for 11 years. The defensive captain was the franchises all-time leading tackler when he retired. After professional football, Butler became a collegiate coach working at Memphis and Arkansas State before joining the NFL as an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
