Orby Arnold, the brother of former Tiger all-American Forest Arnold, came to the University of Memphis in 1955 and starred as a center and forward for four years for the basketball team. The Bloomfield, Missouri, native played his high school basketball in Mayfield, Kentucky, where he earned all-state and high school All-America honors. He appeared in 23 games as a freshman at Memphis and helped his team to a 20-7 record and an NCAA Tournament bid. During the 1956-57 season, Arnold raised his scoring average to 12.9 points per game and with their 24-6 record, the Tigers received an invitation to the NIT in New York. He led the Tigers in scoring as a junior with a 15.8 point per game mark and ended his career with a 12.1 average in 23 games. Arnold tallied 1,246 career points while appearing in 98 games and is still ranked 17th on the Memphis all-time scoring list. Following graduation, Arnold worked for E.I. DuPont DeNemours. He passed away in 1994.
