Paul Bannon, who makes his home in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, came to then Memphis State University in the fall of 1974 from and ran long distance for the Tigers through the 1977 track seasons. He served as a member of the track and cross country teams under former head coach Glenn Hays and set numerous Tiger track records. He set the school mark in the two, three and six mile runs, as well as the 5000 and 10,000 meter races. His fourth place finish in the NCAA Championship six-mile run in 1975 earned him first team All-America honors. He won several Metro Conference Track Championships and was named the Metro Conference Outstanding Track Athlete in 1976 and in 1977. Following graduation, Bannon entered the priesthood and serves as the priest at St. Michael’s Church in Toronto.
