Memphis, Tenn. - University of Memphis women’s soccer Head Coach Brooks Monaghan announced Thursday that Incarnate Word Academy standout Kelley Gravlin has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers. Gravlin is the second of seven signees in the 2010-11 signing class.
“Kelley is another midfielder that we feel will not only add depth to our midfield, but we think she will compete for playing time when she steps foot on campus,” Monaghan said. “She is a very technical player that reads the game extremely well.”
Gravlin has earned three varsity letters at Incarnate Word Academy and is a two-time defending state champion entering her senior year of high school eligibility this spring. She was named honorable mention on the ESPN Rise Spring Girls Soccer All-America Team in July of 2009. She is a three-time All-Conference selection, a 2009 All-Metro First Team selection, 2009 First Team All-State selection, 2009 First Team All-Star selection and a two-time All-Metro honorable mention honoree. Gravlin was also named one of six Future Stars of the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame.
“We try to recruit players that fit into our style of play and compliment the players we already have on our roster and Kelley does just that,” Monaghan said. “We see Kelley as a true center mid, but at the same time she is versatile enough to play in the center back position if needed. She is another all-around very good soccer player and we believe that the sky is the limit for Kelley in her future at the University of Memphis.”
As a member of Saint Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, Gravlin and her team have won four state championships. She was a member of the '92 national soccer pool in 2006 and 2007. Also a member of the Region 2 ODP Team since 2006 and Missouri State ODP Team since 2006. As a member of the Region II ODP Team, Gravlin has traveled to Costa Rica and Germany as part of the team’s International Tour.
Gravlin is the daughter of Bill and Patti Gravlin of Saint Louis, Mo.
