The Tiger football team began week two of spring workouts today and had great weather considering the cold front that had moved in over the weekend. The squad worked out on the turf field as rain on Sunday made the two grass fields damp.
Today marked a couple of firsts, including the first day in shells for the players, and the beginning of the construction of the new 12,000-square foot weight room dedicated solely to the football team.
The Tigers donned shoulder pads today and added more contact, and will be in full pads on Thursday. After three days of energetic practices last week, Coach Larry Porter shared that he was not pleased with the energy today.
"I was disappointed," said Porter. "One of the things we have to learn is how to practice - the pace, the tempo, the intensity. I thought we were lacking that today. In order to play at the level we want to play at, energy and intensity are a must."
Throughout practice, demolition crews were beginning to tear down the equipment shed that was located just outside of the indoor practice facility. The weight room will be a welcome addition for Tiger football and was made possible by private donations. The $3 million project includes the addition of a weight room and a 50-yard, three-lane track.
The Blue-Gray Spring Game will be held at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on April 17 at 1 p.m. To purchase 2010 season tickets, please click HERE.
