MURRAY, Ky.--The 59th-ranked Memphis men's tennis program closed out its time on the road with a sound 7-0 decision over Murray State (0-3) on Saturday afternoon.
Memphis (4-2, 0-1 C-USA) coasted through doubles, wrapping up at No. 1 first with Joe Salisbury and David O'Hare taking down Jorge Caetano and Joao Camara, 8-3. No. 3 doubles pair John Taylor and Leon Nasemann clinched the point for the Tigers with a 8-4 defeat of Mason Johnson and Jose Berardo.
The Blue and Gray carried the momentum into singles, with David Henry, Salisbury, Nasemann and Johnny Grimal taking the No. 1-4 slots all in two sets. With only four courts available, No. 5 and No. 6 singles played pro sets, where Cedric de Zutter won 8-4 over Arthur Valle, and Taylor upended Mason Johnson 8-6, for the final points and the sweep.
"It was great for us to get this win today," head coach Paul Goebel said. "We learned a lot in our match against Vanderbilt and it was big for our guys to rebound with this performance. We came out strong and ready to play."
The Tigers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 19, when they take on North Alabama and Rhodes College at home, with the first match at 10 a.m. at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
