Connor Alexander pitches seven innings, allowing two runs
STORRS, Conn – Connor Alexander allowed just two runs and scattered nine hits in seven innings of work, but the Memphis offense was held in check as the Tigers lost 4-0 and were swept by UConn at J.O. Christian Field.
The three-game sweep in a conference series was the first for the Tigers (21-11, 2-4 AAC) since 2012 at Southern Mississippi.
UConn snagged the lead on an RBI groundout in the second inning. The Huskies got two singles in the inning prior to the run coming home.
UConn doubled the lead with a two-out RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth.
The Huskies put the game away in the eighth inning off of reliever Blake Bennett with another two-out hit, driving in two runs to make their lead 4-0.
Chris Carrier was 2-for-4 with the Tigers only multiple-hit performance of the game. Alec Trela, Jason Santana, Kyle O'Keefe and Carlos Williams had the Tigers other hits in the game.
Memphis finishes a tough 4-4 stretch of eight games in 10 days, with seven on the road. The schedule doesn't get much easier either, as eight of the Tigers' next nine games are against tough completion in Houston, Arkansas and USF.
The Tigers are back at FedExPark to play Arkansas State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Memphis will then welcome Houston for a three-game series at FedExPark Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
