Tigers Close Out UofM Softball Tournament With Sunday Victory

Memphis improves to 16-5; wins ninth-straight
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team closed out the UofM Softball Tournament with a 9-2 victory over Indiana State Sunday afternoon. The win was the ninth-straight victory for the Tigers and it improved Memphis to 16-5 on the year.

Indiana State scored in the top of the first but the Sycamores lead did not last long. Memphis tied up the contest in the home half of the first and put two on the board in the second to take over the advantage.

Although Indiana State added one more in the fourth, the Tigers sprinkled runs in every inning but the third to take a commanding lead over the Sycamores. The duo of Baylee Smith and Ashley Threatt combined for six hits and five runs driven in to lead Memphis offensively.

The pitching duo of Mariah Nichols and Molly Smith held down the game in the circle with Nichols earning the victory and Smith earning the save. Nichols put in 4.0 innings of work and struck out three while Smith finished the game for her second save of the season.

Next Up For The Tigers
Memphis remains at home this week to host Mississippi State on March 14. First pitch against the Bulldogs is slated for 6 p.m. at the Tigers Softball Complex.

- Baylee Smith went 3-for-4 against Indiana State and finished the weekend going 11-for-13 to lead Memphis offensively. She also recorded an RBI in the win and finished the weekend with nine RBIs.
- Ashley Threatt recorded her fourth multi-hit game in the last six contests against Indiana State. Threatt finished with seven hits this weekend. She was a triple shy of the cycle against the Sycamores after hitting a two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- Jessie Lamb recorded her fourth multi-hit game of the season She finished the weekend with five hits, including two against Bowling Green and Indiana State.
- Mariah Nichols improved to 6-2 on the year while Molly Smith registered her team-leading second save of the season. The duo combined for five strikeouts.
- Kyler Trosclair Klatt's hitting streak was snapped, but she extended her reached base streak to 13 games with a walk in the sixth.
- Addison Maxwell also extended her reached base streak to a team-leading 15 games with a walk in the contest.
- Delaney Smith extended her hitting streak to 10 games with a hit in the sixth.

- Top 1 – Indiana State led the inning off with a nine-pitch walk and advanced that runner with a sacrifice bunt on the next at bat. A single through the right side drove the runner on second home. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 1 – A combination of a single by Baylee Smith, a walk by Addison Maxwell and a single up the middle by Ashley Threatt scored the first Memphis run of the game. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 2 – Regan Hadley and Jessie Lamb led the inning off with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt by Erin Parker put both runners in scoring position for Kyler Trosclair Klatt who drove in Hadley on a ground ball to second. Baylee Smith registered her second hit of the day to drive in Lamb. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 4 – The Sycamores led the inning off with a single to left field and a pair of pass balls, as well as a Memphis throwing error, led to one run scoring. (1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Lamb recorded her second hit of the afternoon to right field and came around to score on a double off the center field wall by Baylee Smith. (1 run, 2 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – Memphis tacked on one more run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Lamb. The bases were loaded for the Tigers after a hit by pitch, a single, and an error by Indiana State. (1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – A walk drawn by Trosclair Klatt ignited a four run inning by the Tigers. Threatt drove in Trosclair Klatt on a two-run home run for the first two runs of the inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, Riley Walker stepped in for a pinch-hit double to score the runners on the bases. (4 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
