Tigers Fall To No. 20 Mississippi State Wednesday

Baylee Smith hits first career home run, extends hitting streak to 10 games
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team fell to No. 20 Mississippi State Wednesday evening by a score of 7-1 at the Tigers Softball Complex. The Tigers' nine-game winning streak came to an end as Memphis falls to 16-6 on the year.

Memphis took the first lead of the game with a solo shot to left field by Baylee Smith in the bottom of the first inning. The Bulldogs retaliated in the top of the second with two runs on a pair of hits.

The game remained close until the top of the fifth inning when a pair of Memphis errors ultimately led to five runs scored by the Bulldogs. Mississippi State capped off the inning with a grand slam.

The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the sixth by loading the bases on a pair of hits and a walk, but a double play ended Memphis' half inning.

Molly Smith was dealt the loss against the Bulldogs and finished with just two earned runs as she falls to 9-3 on the year. Mariah Nichols came in relief of Smith in the fifth and allowed just one hit and no runs.
