Tigers Split Saturday Games at the Tiger Classic

Memphis moves to 17-7 after defeating Tennessee Tech, falling to Southeast Missouri
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team opened up the Tiger Classic with an 8-0 win over Tennessee Tech before falling to Southeast Missouri by a score of 8-7. Memphis moves to 17-7 on the year with two more games remaining on Sunday afternoon.

Six hits led to four runs in the bottom of the second inning to ignite the Memphis offense against Tennessee Tech. The Tigers proceeded to score eight runs on 11 hits, including Delaney Smith's second triple of the 2018 campaign.

Molly Smith pitched the complete game shutout and allowed just one hit in the top half of the fourth inning. She finished with nine strikeouts against the Golden Eagles.

Memphis quickly found itself in a hole against Southeast Missouri after allowing two runs in the top of the first. A two-run home run by Ashley Threatt combined with four other hits in the first inning gave Memphis a 4-2 lead.

Five runs in the third by Southeast Missouri, however, put the Redhawks ahead for the final time. The Tigers were able to get a run back in the bottom half of the frame and two in the bottom half of the sixth, but were unable to score the game-tying run to force extras. Mariah Nichols was handed the loss against SEMO as she falls to 6-3 on the year.

- Bottom 2 – A single to the pitcher by Delaney Smith led off a four-run, six-hit inning for the Tigers. Regan Hadley drove in Smith for the first score of the game. Ultimately, Smith, Regan Hadley, Jessie Lamb, Erin Parker, Kyler Trosclair Klatt, and Addison Maxwell recorded hits in the inning. (4 runs, 6 hit, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 3 – Delaney Smith tripled to left center to lead off the third. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooke Lee. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Lee led the inning off with a four-pitch walk. A single through the left side by Hadley and a fielder's choice by Lamb loaded the bases for Tyler Johnson. Johnson, in a pinch-hit situation, singled to right center and drove in Hadley and Lee. A single over the left fielder's head by Baylee Smith drove in the eighth and final run of the game. (3 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Southeast Missouri 8, Memphis 7
- Top 1 – Southeast Missouri put together two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. The first four batters reached base successfully with a pair of hits and a pair of walks. The second run of the game scored on a sacrifice fly to right field. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 1 – Trosclair Klatt doubled through the right side and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Baylee Smith. A single to first base by Addison Maxwell scored Trosclair Klatt before a two-run home run by Ashley Threatt gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead. A double to the wall in left center by Hadley drove in Lee who singled in the previous at bat. (4 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 3 – Southeast Missouri loaded the bases on a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Another walk and a pair of hits scored five runs in the inning. (5 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 3 – Threatt led the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. A double to right center by Delaney Smith put runners in scoring position with no outs. A double to left field by Hadley scored a run. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Top 4 – SEMO loaded the bases with one out on a single and a pair of hit by pitches. A walk later in the inning brought in the lone run in the inning. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – A double off the glove of the second baseman and into right field by Baylee Smith drove in two runs to cut the SEMO lead down to one, 8-7. (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
