Memphis looks to defeat first ranked opponent since 2013 season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team is coming off of a thrilling extra innings victory at the Tiger Classic and looks to keep the momentum going with a game against No. 22/23 Ole Miss Tuesday evening. First pitch at the Tigers Softball Complex is set for 5 p.m.

Memphis comes into the Tuesday night midweek with a 19-7 overall record, which matches the best start in program history.
The NCAA RPI was released Monday morning and Memphis currently sits at No. 68. The Tigers have improved their RPI from just a year ago, where they ended at No. 96.
Addison Maxwell led Memphis this past week with seven hits including the walk-off single over the head of the left fielder in the extra innings win over SIUE Sunday evening. Maxwell is hitting a career-high .351 for the Tigers and has raised her career batting average over .300 this season.
Freshman Baylee Smith continues to lead Memphis in batting average with a .485 mark. Her on base percentage sits at .500 and until it was broken against SIUE, Smith had an eight game RBI streak.
Kyler Trosclair Klatt is also having an exceptional senior season to-date with a .444 batting average and team-high 40 hits. She also is the team leader with 25 RBIs and seven triples.
Molly Smith continued to dominate in the circle this past weekend and enters the game against Ole Miss with a 0.87 ERA in 105.0 innings pitched. Smith has struck out 115 batters, which is just eight shy of matching her career-high of 123 set in 2016.

Ole Miss comes into Tuesday's midweek with a 15-9 overall record and 1-5 mark in SEC play. The Rebels are coming off of a 1-0 shutout win over No. 17 South Carolina.
In the latest polls, the Rebels are ranked as high as No. 22.
Through 24 games, Elantra Cox leads the team with 24 hits. Five players have recorded over 15 hits this season, including batting average leaders Kaylee Horton and Celeste Wood.
Kaitlin Lee has seen the majority of the time in the circle for the Rebels, clocking in at 63.0 innings pitched. She owns a 2.56 ERA and 9-4 record.
As a team, the Rebels are hitting .255 with a 2.58 ERA.
Mike Smith is the head coach of Ole Miss and is currently in his fourth season at the helm.
