Academic Highlights
The 2020 spring semester report card brings to a close a tremendous academic calendar year for the Tigers.
Â
Just last week, the UofM had a record-setting NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report in which six programs – women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, football, men's soccer, women's soccer – set program APR records. Three of those programs – women's basketball, women's golf, men's soccer – had the highest APR in the American Athletic Conference.
Â
For the 2018-19 academic year only, the Tigers had nine programs with perfect 1,000 APR scores. Eleven of the 17 UofM programs had APR scores equal to or higher than the national average in their respective sports.
Â
Earlier this month, 47 student-athletes were among the largest graduating class in the University's history.
Â
In January, the UofM's fall report card revealed a 3.17 GPA for the department's 13thstraight semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Fourteen of the 17 programs had a 3.0 or higher GPA for the 2019 fall semester. At the end of the 2019 fall semester in December, 20 Tigers earned their degrees.
Â
Memphis' 2019-20 year of academic success started last October when the NCAA released that the Memphis Graduation Success Rate (GSR) was at 92 percent (2009-12 cohort), the highest mark in the department's history. It was the fifth year in a row that the Tigers set a GSR record. Memphis' 92 GSR was four points higher than the national GSR (88).
Â
The Tigers' 92 GSR was second among American Athletic Conference members and was tied for the highest score among public institutions in the state of Tennessee. Thirteen of Memphis' 15 programs had a GSR above the national average in their sports.
